A two-hour drive from San Cristóbal, nestled in the mountains of Altos de Chiapas is the town of Pantelhó. Here we work with an all-woman cooperative made up of 30 weavers from this Tztotil community. The deep blue cushion covers are characteristic of Pantelhó for their pared-down elegance. Our pillows are brocaded with representations of butterflies, flowers, mountains and water, scattered across the bold vertical stripes. Backstrap weaving, a four-thousand-year-old Mesoamerican technique, is on beautiful display in these charming covers.
