The Wixaritari call their God's Eyes Tsikuri, which means the power to see and understand things unknown. Traditionally Tsikuri are sacred ritual objects used for protection of children during the early and most vulnerable years of life. Created when a child is born, fathers weave the central eye, and add once color every year until the child reaches five. Inspired in the beauty and protective symbolism of Tsikuri, we have worked in collaboration with Huichol artists to create a series of decorative God’s Eyes. Although our version does not carry the same cultural significance of original Tsikuri, they allow us to pause in gratitude for the protective walls of our home and those we consider our family.
