Nieli'kas are ceremonial tablets used by the Wixarica people as portals between the physical and spiritual worlds. Traditionally they are made from yarn or beads pressed into beeswax and resin covered square or round tablets made from wood or dried gourds. Master shamans use them to communicate with the deities. Our oval bateas made of yarn and hand carved wood were made in collaboration with Huichol craftsmen. Inspired in ritualistic tablets, our decorative pieces do not carry the same spiritual significance as Nieli’kas however they are beautiful reminders to take the time to look within for clarity and enlightenment.
